US wireless carrier Sprint has recently revealed that it is expanding its push-to-talk functionality with their app “Direct Connect Now” for select Android devices. According to the company, the LG G Flex, LG G2, LG Optimus F3, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy S 4, and the Kyocera Hydro Edge will all be made compatible with the Direct Connect Now app.
In addition to above mentioned devices, Sprint's push-to-talk feature will soon come aboard to some other Android devices, as well. The Samsung Galaxy Mega, Galaxy S4 Mini, and the Galaxy S4 will also be able to run this app. The company had been marketing this walkie-talkie type functionality for a long time, dating back before Android came into existence.
Even though the feature is not as common as it once was, Sprint appears to be ready to keep it going with an update to the official Android application. To install the push-to-talk app on any of the mentioned devices, you have to download the free "Sprint Direct Connect Now" app on Google Play. The service will include the carrier's service plans at no additional cost. However, some plans charge an extra $5 per month for the feature.
At the same time, Sprint has got to be feeling the crunch from apps like Voxer, which offer similar functionalities without any network or hardware requirements. There are an increasing number of smartphone users who use their devices for work, and the expanding support for Direct Connect Now means that more people can witness a wider range of products.
The company had only just introduced Easy Pay last month, which is a new early upgrade program that allows customers to purchase a new phone whenever they want. John Tudhope, the product marketing director of the company stated, "With Sprint Direct Connect Now, consumers and businesses can easily download push-to-talk service to help mobilize their lives, their businesses, and their workforces."
